Walk the Talk For Our Veterans

Winner Update:

Random.org was the true random number generator I used to pick the winner of the Perky’s Paw Necklace.  It’s actually a pretty interesting program – ok, I admit,  I’m a nerdy former engineer.  They use atmospheric noise in the generation of the random numbers – so the winner is truly getting a gift from the heavens!

And the random number is:

Random Winner

Well, if your eyes are as old as mine, stop squinting, it’s the number 8.  Congratulations to Angela, her comment was #8 and she is the winner of the Perky’s Paw Necklace.  Angela please email me your mailing address.

I’d like to thank all of you for participating. The VetDogs people told me that they received a total of $120 in donations through this little fundraiser.  I wasn’t given a breakdown, but I can do the math and I know that’s more than $5 per person. Thank you all so much for your generosity to our veterans!  In appreciation, I’d like to offer each non-winning donor a 20% discount on one item (not including charity items) in my Artfire shop.  That should be up and running within a day or two.  In my book, you are ALL winners!  Thanks again.

UPDATE NOTE:  Due to some confusion, the contest will run through Tuesday, 11/16.  Please, donate $5 to VetDogs and leave a comment telling me you did.  That’s all you have to do!  Please share this post with your friends!

I’ve been wracking my brains for two days, trying to figure out what I can do to help our Veterans for this Veteran’s Day.  Today, I was driving and listening to a live version of Billy Joel’s Goodnight Saigon when it came to me.  I’m really excited about this one, as it gives everyone an opportunity to do something.

So many people have posted flags and good wishes to our Veterans on Facebook.  I think that’s great.  But I also think it’s a little too easy – like slapping a yellow ribbon on the trunk of your car in support of Veterans and calling it a day.  I have a better idea – one where you can make a real difference in a Veteran’s life.

If you’ve read my blog at all, you know I am passionate about VetDogs, a non-profit organization that provides service dogs to our Veterans who are disabled, free of charge.  These dogs are life-changing for the Veterans.  So here’s the deal:

  1. Donate at least $5 directly to VetDogs online, between now and Monday, 11/15, noon.  In the special instructions on the donation page write “Perky’s Paw Fundraiser.”
  2. Leave a comment on this post that you donated.
  3. I will choose a random winner Monday night from all the donor comments.  Save your donation receipt, if you are lucky, I may ask to see it 😉

Winning?  Prize?  I haven’t mentioned that part yet, have I?  One lucky random winner will win a Perky’s Paw Necklace, the special fundraiser piece I designed to benefit VetDogs.  Read the story behind the necklace here.

It’s a great necklace any dog lover would love – and if you don’t love dogs, I’m sure you know someone who would would love it as a gift!  Do something good today.  Donate $5 to help our veterans.  Then post your flags and yellow ribbons with pride.

Good Luck and thank you for helping our Veterans!

Maria, I donated and re-posted (although that was dumb b/c it reduces my chances of winning). All for a good cause.

Great idea, Maria – I made a donation but please do not include me in your drawing. I love the necklace, but I’ll buy one instead 🙂

Also, if you connect with Chelsea at ext 1153, she can help promote and coordinate this as a third party fundraiser. It might mean you need to extend your deadline (again) 🙂
